Acai Berry Antioxidant Properties

Antioxidant Properties of Acai Berries

People who are serious about their overall health are also serious about the benefits of acai berry antioxidant properties available to them.

Over the past decade, there have been many fruits called “miracle fruits” or in some cases “superfoods”. The list of super foods contains fruits such as nonigoji berrymangosteenlychee fruit and one of the most popular acai berry.

As with any discovery of the health benefits of food, there will be those which exaggerate the health benefits. The same thing has happened with acai berries. Some have claimed the acai berry has miraculous healing powers. While this may be a little extreme, it is a known fact the antioxidant properties of acai berries are second to none. It is these acai berry antioxidant properties that have the greatest benefit to our health.

Cultivation of the Acai Berry

The acai berry grows atop the acai palm tree, or as it’s scientifically known as Euterpe oleracea. The acai palm tree can grow up to 100 feet tall. The acai berries grow at the top of the acai palm, thus making harvesting the acai berries time-consuming and laborious.

Originally, the acai palm was grown in Central and South America. It has since been spread to other areas in the world that have similar soil and climate conditions to that of the rain forests in Central and South America.

Acai Berry Antioxidant Properties

There are many products on the market today which advertise the many health benefits they contain. However, in order for our bodies to benefit from these great products, our bodies must be able to absorb the nutrients, vitamins and antioxidants.

If no we are wasting not only our time but our money. It is vital to our health we consume the products in such a manner to maximize the absorption and reap the most health benefits possible.

A recent study was conducted by Texas AgriLife Research testing the absorption rate of the nutrients and antioxidants found in acai berry into human cells. The study’s results were very promising. The researchers found the volunteers that consumed the acai berry fruit and juice showed their bodies had indeed absorbed the nutrients and antioxidants. This was confirmed through blood and urine samples taken 12 and 24 hours after the subjects had consumed the acai berry.

It is important to understand just because a product is based on natural ingredients, our bodies will not automatically absorb all the nutrients provided by the product. In the case of acai berry though, it has been proven our bodies will absorb the nutrients and antioxidants more readily than most other fruits. When looking for a natural supplement to increase your health, you want to have one with acai berry content.

Antioxidants in Acai Berry

There are many natural processes that occur in our bodies on a daily basis. Some of these processes create what are called free radicals. Free radicals are atoms that have lost one electron.

This loss of an electron makes the free radical very unstable and its natural process to stabilize itself is to find and additional electron. To do this, the free radical will steal an electron from the atom of a healthy stable cell. This then stabilizes the free radical, but in turn damages the once healthy cell, causing oxidation.

To stop this process from happening, antioxidants are required to eliminate free radicals. The antioxidants stabilize the free radicals and then they are eliminated through our bodies. The antioxidants found in acai berries are some of the most potent antioxidants known. In addition to their potency, the acai berry also has the highest content of antioxidants of any food. These are two more reasons to have a consistent supply of acai berry in your diet.
