10 Home Remedies for Dry and Sensitive Skin

Cleansing Oil

While this may seem contrary, using cleansing oil on your dry or sensitive skin can make a world of difference. Using a 3-to-1 mixing ratio, mix olive oil and cleansing oil or grape and cleaning oil together. Gently rub the mixture into your palm to warm the oil then spread it on your face evenly. Next, soak a washcloth in hot water, squeeze out the water then place the warm cloth on your face.

Leave the cloth in place until it cools. Rinse out the washcloth and then continue to repeat the process until your face feels soft and silky.

Bee-autiful Treat

Honey makes for a great sugar substitute for foods and drinks and also does wonders for your skin. Take a small amount of honey and rub it onto your skin in the area you want to treat. Then sit back and relax for approximately 10 minutes. To remove the honey it is recommended to shower or bath to ensure you completely remove all the honey thoroughly from your skin.

Healthy Start

Every day we all have a specific skincare routine we follow. Whether for seasonal or hormonal reasons, we need to make adjustments in our routine. One great routine change is a quick facial every morning. Mix one egg yolk with 1 teaspoon of orange juice, 1 teaspoon of olive oil, a few drops of rose water and a few drops of lime juice. Apply the mixture to your face every morning for 15 minutes before you take a bath or shower.

There’s Some Chocolate on Your Face

Who said finding remedies for dry and sensitive skin could be indulgent? Chocolate has many benefits to our health from a natural aphrodisiac to improving the look of our skin. Creating a sweet mixture of chocolate for your skin promotes a youthful glow, reduces fine lines, scars and stretch marks, and protects from environmental effects such as sun and pollution.

To prepare your chocolate facial, simply mix 5 tablespoons of cocoa powder, 4 tablespoons of honey and 2 tablespoons of mashed avocado. The addition of 3 teaspoons of maize flour, which is a natural exfoliator is optional. Apply the mask to your face and any other part of your body that you so desire. Gently massage the mask into your skin, leaving it on for 15 to 20 minutes. Then rinse it off with warm water.

Natural Soaps

Fragrances and strong cleansing agents, while they may smell and sound good, do not help your dry or sensitive skin. In fact, they can do further damage and cause your problem to worsen by depleting your skin of the natural oils it has left. Instead, look for non-irritating cleansers without artificial supplements and ones that are pH-balanced such as the Skindulgence Cleanser.

Mango Mask

The first mask on our list for remedies for dry and sensitive skin is a mango mask. Peel a ripe mango and squash it into a pulp. Mix 1 teaspoon of mango pulp with 1 teaspoon of sugar and use it to peel and prepare your skin for the actual mask that’s now to follow. It’s made of the rest of the pulp mixed with 3 teaspoons of argan oil. Apply it carefully and let it do its magic for 20 minutes. Wash it off and don’t apply any additional lotion afterwards.

Eggs and Oil Mask

Add 1 egg to 1 teaspoon of honey, half a teaspoon of olive oil and a few drops of rose water and stir carefully. Cover your face with it and let the mixture sit for about 10 to 15 minutes.

Banana Mask

Making sure there are no monkeys watching, mash some ripe bananas and simply spread them on your face. Let it sit for about 10 minutes and then rinse thoroughly with warm water, or shower as needed.

Avocado Mask

Puree one ripe avocado and add 2 teaspoons of dahi and half a teaspoon of honey to it. If you wish, mix in 2 pureed tomatoes. Apply the thick cream to either your whole face or only its dry parts and let it nourish your skin for about 10 minutes. Rinse thoroughly.

Almonds and Milk Mask

Last and certainly not least on our remedies for dry and sensitive skin starts with soaking 3 to 4 almonds overnight in half a cup of milk. Grind into a fine paste and leave to cool in the fridge. Apply on your face before going to bed and wash off the next morning to reveal softer smoother skin!
